That's like not so good kind of a profession .. atleast that's what it is even today. The whole thought of being a sales man is not acceptable in most parts of the society that I am of..
However, when they make it BIG, everyone wants to associated with them. Mr. Narayanamurthy is one of the top of the mind example while all them know he has done more than anyone of us can write with respect to software services, he was also 'selling'.
Well , personally sales is a profession that teaches you constantly to be humble as you are in front of a person most of the times who gives you business. It also ideally should give you the power & the art of listening patiently, handle objections. This will also benefit a person in his personal life if he applies it appropriately.
Selling is an art more than a science & every time is a new experience. People are different , what you sell throughout your career is different and people not listening to you unless you are really making sense and build that relationship is a really credible thing.
